Finding a wheelchair accessible or mobility adapted vehicle in the UK can be a slow, expensive and stressful process. Whether you’re a disabled driver, a carer, or a family member looking to provide transport for someone with mobility needs, AVC’s disability vehicle subscription offers a genuinely flexible alternative to traditional routes.
What Disability and Adapted Vehicles Does AVC Offer?
AVC offers two distinct categories of disability vehicle on subscription:
1. Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) These are vehicles adapted to carry wheelchair users — typically with a ramp or lowered floor. AVC’s WAV range includes:
- 5–6 seat configurations
- Manual ramp access
- Models including the Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Rifter
2. Mobility Adapted Vehicles These are standard vehicles fitted with driving adaptations for disabled drivers. Available adaptations include:
- Push/pull hand controls
- Lodgesons Infrared controls
- Left foot accelerator
- And more — speak to our team about specific requirements
What Plans Are Available for Disability Vehicles?
All four AVC subscription tiers — Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond — are available on disability vehicles. This means you can choose the level of access that matches your actual usage:
- Bronze: Perfect for part-time access — hospital appointments, family outings, weekends
- Silver/Gold: For more regular usage throughout the month
- Diamond: Full-time access, every day, with up to 6 free vehicle swaps per year
No advance payments are required on any plan.
Why Is a Subscription Particularly Useful for Disability Vehicles?
Trying Before Committing One of the most valuable aspects of an AVC subscription is the ability to try different adaptations before making a permanent decision. If you’re unsure whether push/pull controls or infrared controls work better for you, a subscription lets you experience both — without buying or committing to a 3-year lease.
One of our customers, having come out of hospital, used the vehicle swap option to try several different adapted vehicles before finding the one that suited them best.
Flexible Usage Not everyone needs a WAV or adapted vehicle every day. Carers, for example, might only need wheelchair access for specific trips. Our Bronze and Silver plans are built for this — giving you a set number of vehicle days each month without paying for full-time access.
No Long Commitment Life with a disability can change. Medical treatment, care needs, and mobility can all shift. A 6 or 12 month subscription is far more adaptable than a 3-year Motability lease.
